The 2021 SummerSlam lived up to its hype, as no fan could predict what was going to happen next with the PPV being full of surprises. Becky Lynch was back doing business in the WWE after she took time off from the scene to have a child. Bianca Belair was supposed to take on Sasha Banks in her title defense but Sasha was unable to compete due to an injury and Carmella was announced to replace her. Once Carmella got into the ring, Lynch’s music hit and the crowd went wild as she made her way towards the ring and took out Carmella to challenge Belair for the title match which was accepted. Lynch extended her hand for a handshake and delivered a suplex to score the win in just 20 seconds and get her hands on the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship and put an end to Bianca’s incredible story as Champion.

Charlotte Flared

The Triple Threat fight between Nikki A.S.H, Charlotte Flair, and Rhea Ripley was one to watch. All three fighters landed some devastating moves right from the start of the fight and things broke down into a stretch when Ripley and Flair were battling one on one with Nikki knocked out of the ring, but she found her way back by hitting a sublime DDT on FLair for a near fall and then followed it up with a crossbody from the top rope on both women. This continued for a while before Flair hit a twisting moonsault from the top rope which took out both of her opponents after which she locked Ripley in the figure-eight position which was broken by Nikki. But, things soon turned against her as her near fall was reversed into the same figure-eight submission and Nikki was forced to tap out as Charlotte flared and became the Champion once again.

Lashley hurt-locked Gage

The fight between Bobby Lashley and Goldberg ended in the most terrible way possible. Lashley won the fight to retain his title after his strategy of targeting Goldberg’s knee worked an absolute treat. The Champ kept going at Goldberg’s leg until the referee called for the bell and declared Lashley the winner via referee’s stoppage. After the match was over, MVP slid in a steel chair and Lashley continued to pound on his opponent. Seeing this, Goldberg’s 15-year-old son Gage showed a lot of courage as he jumped in the ring and leaped into Lashley’s back but it wasn’t the smartest decision by the young kid as Lashley locked him in the Hurt Lock before walking off with his belt. This indirectly appears to have set up a rematch between the two.

Roman Reigns is to stay in WWE after all

Before the main event, Roman Reigns raised the stake by saying that it would be his last match in the WWE if he loses to John Cena at SummerSlam. With that in mind, Cena knew that he only needed a three-count to end Reigns’ WWE career. Cena kept trying to roll up Reigns into a three count during the initial stages of the fight but couldn’t execute it properly. Tired of the antics, Reigns went for his methodical beardown and tossed Cena from the ring, whipping him into the ring steps. Cena eventually found his way back into the fight and hit the shuffle and an AA for a near fall and then followed it up with the STF lock but Reigns managed to get to the rope and break the lock. After a continuous exchange of punches and finishers, Reigns hit back-to-back superman punches and followed that up with a spear to score the pinfall and retain his WWE Universal Title.

The return of the Beast

Just like at Money in the Bank, SummerSlam also ended with a return of a WWE Superstar. This time, it was The Beast, Brock Lesnar. After Reigns closed the show with a thrilling win over John Cena, the crowd at Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium erupted as they heard Lesnar’s music. Lesnar made his way to the ring and nodded at Reigns before the Champ left the ring after being urged by Lesnar’s former and Reigns’ current manager, Paul Heyman. With both superstars staring at each other, it was clear that the beast is back and is hungry to become the champion once again.
