After replacing Daren Till and fighting just three weeks after facing #4 Derek Brunson, Kevin Holland failed to get a victory against the Italian Dream in the headliner of UFC Vegas 23. Holland got off the blocks to a very quick start by landing a few fast kicks and punches which definitely earned him a bunch of points. But, Vettori stuck to his game plan of taking things to the floor just like Derek Brunson did against the Trailblazer at UFC Fight Night: Brunson VS Holland.
Once things were down to the canvas, there was nothing Holland could do. Vettori did exceptionally well to hold his position and produced some heavy ground and pound strikes which also led to huge swelling under Holland’s left eye. The American mixed martial artist insisted that he wanted to continue to fight and so was cleared by the referee and the doctor. Right from that moment, the contest went on a loop, with Holland striking a few punches occasionally when they were on their feet and then Vettori would attempt a takedown and hold his position till Holland found a way out.
By the end of the match, there was no question about who was going to win the encounter. Vettori was victorious on a unanimous decision with all scorecards reading 50 – 44. The Italian Dream landed a total of 152 strikes and completed a total of eleven takedowns out of his seventeen attempts. This victory took Marvin to a total of seventeen victories in his career and also was his fifth consecutive victory. At the end of the battle, he said that he wasn’t happy with the victory because he wanted to finish Holland off and win via knockout.

In the post-match interview, Marvin called out for a title shot against Israel Adesanya. He said, “I want Adesanya next. I will improve by the next fight, that’s sure. In October, I want to fight him. I think I deserve it. I have the longest winning streak right now. A lot of people were supposed to show up and they didn’t. I’m on a winning streak right now, like I said, and I put on winning performances, dominant performances and I want this title, man.”
