Leicester City with the Premier League trophy
A A A tT

There have been plenty of outstanding teams in the Premier League since its inception in 1992. Manchester United dominated the league for the best part of two decades while facing stiff competition from Arsenal and Chelsea before Manchester City completely warped the competition in recent years, winning three of the past four titles.

From the Invincibles to the Centurions to the miracle of Leicester, the Premier League has seen plenty of extraordinary teams over the years. But which is the greatest Premier League Team of all time, well let’s find out.

6. LEICESTER CITY 2015/16

While this Leicester team isn’t the greatest in terms of technical quality or talent on the pitch, the sheer grandeur and extraordinary nature of their victory mean they have to find a spot in our top six teams of all time. After narrowingly avoiding relegation in the previous year, and having odds of 5000/1 to become Champions, Leicester did the unthinkable in 2016 to win the Premier League title and break the hegemony of the Big 6 in England. Leicester used a good old fashioned 4-4-2 under Ranieri with Jamie Vardy tearing through defences with his pace, Riyad Mahrez providing the ingenuity on the wing and N’Golo Kante doing the running for three men in midfield. Leicester’s title victory made

5. MANCHESTER UNITED 2007/08

Manchester United have had plenty of great teams over the years but purely based on Premier League achievements, no United team matched the ferocious and ruthless 2007/08 team that eased to the title. Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic formed one of the most revered centre back partnerships in the history of the league which helped United concede only 22 goals all season. Meanwhile, the front three of Ronaldo, Tevez and Rooney scored 57 goals between them and the Red Devils destroyed visiting teams at Old Trafford with their pace and relentless attacking threat.

4. LIVERPOOL 2019/20

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side in 2019/20 will go down as one of the most dominant teams in Premier League history. Liverpool broke their duck in the Premier League in style and registered the most one-sided league victory in the history of the competition as they won the title with seven games still to play. Liverpool registered the best start to a league season with 30 wins in their first 34 games and they broke all sorts of records in 2019/20 including the biggest lead in English top-flight history (25 points), most home wins (18) and most wins (32).

The full-back duo of Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold both reached double figures in assists while Firmino, Salah and Mane proved to be one of the deadliest attacking trios across Europe.

3. CHELSEA 2004/05

Jose Mourinho’s greatest achievement in the Premier League came in his first season in England when he took Chelsea to the Premier League title. The Blues completely dominated the League under the Portuguese, scoring a record points total at the time (95) and only lost one game throughout the season. This Chelsea team boasted the greatest defence in the history of the competition with the back five of Petr Cech, John Terry, Ricardo Carvalho, William Gallas and Paulo Ferriera conceding only 15 goals all season long and keeping a record 21 clean sheets.

2. ARSENAL 2003/04

Out of all the records in the history of the Premier League, the feat achieved by Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal in the 2003/04 season might be the only one that stands through the course of history. The Arsenal Invincibles went the whole 2003/04 season without losing a single game and achieved a level of domination that was previously unheard of in elite sport. Winning 26 games and drawing 12, this Arsenal side played one of the most attractive brands of football that the league has ever seen with the likes of Pires and Ljungberg on the wing, Vieira breaking through midfield and the majestic duo of Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry upfront.

1. MANCHESTER CITY 2017/18

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City brought the Premier League to its knees in 2017/18 and were without question the most dominating side of this era. Kevin De Bruyne, Leroy Sane and David Silva pulled the strings in midfield and finished in the top three in the assist charts while Sergio Aguero was at his lethal best in front of goal, finishing the league with 21 strikes.

Manchester City became the first PL team to score 100 points in a season and the centurions broke all sorts of records in 2017/18, including the most wins (32), most away wins (16) and most goals (106) while playing an attractive attacking brand of football.
