The world of Football is otherwise known as “The Beautiful Game” but sometimes, it’s safe to say that beauty comes in various shapes and sizes…and haircuts!
Footballers are often known to be style symbols for the youth of their times, trendsetters and their lids often seem as important as scoring goals, as an essential part of their image. Everyone talks about the glamorous side of it all, but there are times when it doesn’t quite go as well as they perhaps planned so here is a list of the funniest haircuts from the fabulous world of football!
1. Giovanni Simeone
There is no doubt that the Argentine striker, son of Diego Simeone, the current coach of Atletico Madrid, sported perhaps the funniest hairdo in football. The Genova player is said to have done this as a part of a dare and whether or not his feats on the field match his old man, Giovanni Simeone has made sure he will not be forgotten in a hurry.
2. Cristiano Ronaldo
Those of you who have followed CR7 only over the past decade must be wondering why Ronaldo is on this list but during his early days in Portugal and then in Red with Manchester United, the 5-time Ballon d’Or winner sported a few looks that we’re pretty sure he won’t look back on too fondly!
3. Taribo West
The former Nigerian footballer who played for Italian giants like AC Milan and Inter Milan was well known for his weird and funny hairstyles. At one point during his time with Nigeria, West had his whole head shaved, apart from two pig-tails which…wait for it…he decided to dye green!
That went south pretty quickly, Mr West!
4. Ronaldo
The Brazilian legend is well known for this odd haircut which he pulled off during the 2002 World Cup which killed any chance of him being a fashion icon in football. A couple of years ago though, the legend revealed that his haircut was part of a plan to distract people from his injury.
“I had an injury in my leg and everybody was talking about that. I decided to cut my hair and leave the small thing there…I come to training and everybody saw me with bad hair. Everybody was talking about the hair and forgot about the injury.”
That’s one way to change the subject!!!
5. Carlos Valderrama
The Colombian midfielder was a fantastic footballer but will probably always be better known for his fuzzy long hairstyle. You might have never seen such blonde curly hair on a men’s football game but throw in the moustache and that was one seriously out there look. For a greater cause, in support of Breast Cancer, he even colored his hair pink…no we didn’t want to hurt your eyes so we’ve left that image out!
6. Djibril Cisse
The former Liverpool striker is known for his unique and almost comical hairstyles since he left Liverpool…But nothing beats this one!
7. Roberto Baggio
The Italian Icon has had a pretty constant haircut throughout his career and with age, it’s said that men do get wiser. Unfortunately, Roberto Baggio didn’t seem to get the memo with the grey long ponytail. Not cool Roberto…not cool!
8. Rodrigo Palacio
Palacio who made his name playing for the mighty Inter Milan is well known for ponytail, bit of hair, that rival fans called a “Rat-Tail” and no one would ever question it’s place on this list.
Rodrigo Palacio perhaps never scored as many goals as his club would have liked but he will always go down as a cult hero with the fans and will be hoping his legacy left behind is longer than his legendary rat rail!
9. Neymar
The PSG star is very well known for different hairstyles. A majority of of them are respectable but he makes his way into the list with this haircut which he had during his fledgling days as a rising star at Santos.
10. Vagner Love
Vagner Silva de Souza a.k.a. Vagner Love has remained extravagant with his choice of style up top throughout his career and whether green, red, blue or blonde, the pacy Brazilian striker ensured he could be spotted from the top row of any stadium – a commentator’s delight. A strong, authoritative striker he might be, but perhaps always better known for his questionable taste in a hairdo!
