MEN’S SINGLES

World Number 1 Novak Djokovic made hard work of his fourth-round tie against the young, impressive Lorenzo Musetti. The 19-year old was in inspired form in the first half of the match, taking the first two sets on tie breaks. It was after going two sets down that the Serb seemed to change gears and dominated the match from there, taking the next two sets 6-1, 6-0. In the final set, a completely worn out Musetti decided enough was enough and retired while being 0-4 down. He later mentioned cramps and lower back pain got the better of him as he was forced to hand Djokovic a walkover.

Rafael Nadal took on Musetti’s compatriot Jannik Sinner and the Italian seemed to take Rafa by surprise with his sublime hitting at the start of the match. This form was short-lived though and Sinner’s failure to close out the first set after breaking Nadal jolted the 19-year old. After that, the defending champion took charge and closed out the match in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3, 6-0.

Daniil Medvedev kept his momentum going in this year’s Roland Garros with another resounding win, this time against Cristian Garín, defeating him, 6-2, 6-1, 7-5 to make it into the quarter finals. It now sets up a mouth-watering clash vs Tsitsipas in the Quarterfinal.

WOMEN’S SINGLES

Serena Williams was stunned by World Number 21 Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan. A disappointing showing from the 23-time Grand Slam Champion saw her being eliminated in straight sets, 3-6, 5-7 and leaves her still searching for her 24th Slam to bring her level with Margaret Court.

Iga Światek continued her dominance in Paris with another routine victory, this time defeating Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk, 6-3, 6-4.

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Maria Sakkari are fast becoming favourites to challenge for Światek’s throne. They both defeated tough opponents in 15th seed Vika Azarenka and 4th seed Sofia Kenin to keep up their great run of form ahead of the Quarterfinals.

Both the men’s and women’s draw seem to be heating up. A headline clash between Tsitsipas and Medvedev has taken centre stage in the men’s draw, while Sakkari and Światek’s clash is the main event for the women’s draw. Looking at how the tournament has been so far, it would be no surprise if the dark horses spoil the fun before the semi-finals.
