From bicycle kicks to volleys to outstanding team goals, there have been plenty of extraordinary strikes in the Premier League over the past ten months, and here are our top eight goals of the 2021/22 season.
Starting off, we have Wilfred Zaha’s unstoppable strike for Crystal Palace at Carrow Road. Cutting in on his preferred right foot from the left wing, the Ivorian unleashed an unstoppable strike from outside the box that curled into the top corner against Norwich City.
At number seven, we have one of the best long-range goals of the season from Rodri Hernandez, who rifled an incredible first-time strike from 30 yards out into the top corner against Everton.
At number six, we have Cristiano Ronaldo’s opening goal from his hat-trick against Tottenham in April. The Portuguese superstar collected the ball from a clever flick from Fred at the edge of the box before firing an unstoppable shot from 25 yards that swerved past Hugo Lloris into the net.
Danny Ings sensationally marked his Aston Villa debut at the start of the season, with the Englishman scoring his first goal for the club with an audacious bicycle kick from a throw-in against Newcastle at Villa Park.
At number four is Arsenal’s mesmerizing team goal against Southampton at the Emirates Stadium which saw the Gunners successfully convert defence into attack in a manner of seconds. Mikel Arteta’s side successfully played out of Southampton’s press with ease before Alexandre Lacazette finished off the team move in style to give Arsenal the lead.
Andros Townsend has developed a habit of scoring only screamers, and the English winger added another wondrous strike to his collection against Burnley in September. Townsend collected the ball at the edge of the centre circle before cutting in and unleashing an unstoppable curled strike past Nick Pope into the top left corner.
In terms of importance and skill, very few goals can match Mohamed Salah’s jaw-dropping solo effort against Manchester City at Anfield. The Egyptian King danced through three City defenders in the penalty area before rifling the ball past Ederson from a tight angle to give Liverpool the lead against their title rivals.
Our Premier League goal of the season for 2021/22 is Matteo Kovacic’s incredible volley against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge. Despite running backwards, the Croatian midfielder somehow managed to meet a swerving high ball with a perfect connection, unleashing a volley through a crowd of bodies and into the top corner from outside the box.
