After defeating Alexander Hernandez at UFC 271, Renato Moicano steps up to replace the COVID positive, Rafael Fiziev to fight Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 272.

Since the news broke out that Rafael Fiziev had tested positive for COVID, UFC President Dana White had been scrambling to find a replacement for the co-main event of UFC 272. Many interesting prospects stood up to replace him but in the end, it was the Mohawk who got his pen to the paper.

Renato “Mohawk” Moicano who has a professional record of 16 wins, 4 losses, and 1 NC stepped in on less than a week’s notice to fight Rafael dos Anjos, in what could be the biggest fight of his MMA career. Moicano fought less than a month ago in which he secured a second-round submission victory over Alexander Hernandez. Currently, the Brazilian is on a two-fight wins streak with both of them being second-round submission wins.

As for his opponent, Rafael dos Anjos sits #6 in the lightweight division with 30 professional victories while having faced 13 defeats in his long MMA career. His last professional victory came against Paul Felder which he won via split decision back in 2020. Out of his last three fights, the Brazilian has only managed to win once and lost twice via unanimous decision.

Although Rafael dos Anjos has loads of experience under his belt, we are going to go with Renato Moicano in this one. There are a lot of advantage points for Moicano in this fight, with the most simple one being the age factor. Dos Anjos is five years older to Moincao and the younger fighter of the two also holds a 2inch height and reach advantage which favors him in the octagon. Apart from that, when it comes to striking, Moicano lands more significant strikes than dos Anjos at 5.19 per minute.

Moicano also holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai which gives him the edge in the wrestling department as well. The unranked fighter also edges his opponent out in the takedown department with 2.14 takedowns per 15 minutes compared to dos Anjos’ 1.93.

RDA is a former UFC lightweight champion with world-class skills in every department but if he wants to extend his winning streak, he better stick to striking as Moicano is extremely dangerous with submissions.
