With under four weeks of Premier League football left, the race for one of the most precious personal awards of the premier league heats up. Just like every year, some great names have been a part of this year’s Golden Boot race.
At the very top is England’s captain who leads the pack with his twenty-one goals in the thirty-one appearances he has made for Tottenham this season. Though Spurs find themselves struggling in the league and have had manager Mourinho sacked, their star striker has almost always found his name on the scoresheet and has been a real game-changer in their matches. Kane has won the Golden Boot twice in his career and it’s hard to not mention his 29 goals in the 16-17 season. He has managed to bag four goals in his last three games and has the highest expected goals in the league – 18.39.

Right behind him, piling on the pressure is Mohamed Salah of Liverpool who has scored twenty goals for the fourth season running. The Egyptian is a two-time winner of the Golden Boot already, with one coming in a record-breaking season for the most number of goals in a single season (32 goals) in the 17-18 season and the next one coming in the 18-19 season in a three-way tie with teammate Sadio Mane and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang. It is a surprise for every football fan to see Salah in contention this season as the Egyptian has gone on a goal drought multiple times this season.

Salah has a four-goal lead over the next two top scorers, Son Heung-Min and Bruno Fernandes. Both players have scored sixteen goals this season for their respective clubs. Son has not only been a goal scorer for the team but has also been a good provider with ten assists this season. The South Korean is one of the reasons why Harry Kane is leading the race for the golden boot.

As a midfielder, to score sixteen goals is a big deal and Bruno Fernandes has been a very influential player this season, for both club and country. Out of his sixteen goals this season, eight of them came from the spot and many believe that penalties are the only reason Bruno is in the race but that’s not quite right. His contribution this season has been exceptional and has often saved Manchester United from dropping points all season long.

Dominic Calvert Lewin, Patrick Bamford, Ollie Watkins are the next three players with 15,14,13 goals respectively. These three youngsters are highly unlikely to cover the gap but have displayed some amazing attacking football throughout the season.
