UFC President Dana White confirmed that the Twitter spat between the two fighters almost stopped the main event of UFC 264. White said, “There was a lot of chances that was gonna fall apart. I saw some conspiracy theorists thinking that that was to help promote the fight. Absolutely none of that was done to help promote the fight. I can assure you of that. But we got it done. We had to go back and forth. Listen, man, we’ve been doing this for 20 years. This is what we do. We get it done”
The last time these two faced off was back at UFC 257 where McGregor took a heavy blow to his face and his UFC career, after getting knocked out by The Diamond in the second round. Since then, both fighters have been waiting to face each other in the Octagon again with hefty verbal spats flying at each other too. Now that the fight is confirmed, it’s just a matter of time until we see which one of them is a better fighter as they look to break the deadlock.

After signing the contract, McGregor spoke to UFC Journalist Ariel Helwani and told him, “I signed my bout agreement this morning. I’m going to rip this game a new asshole on July 10th. The Mac is back in Sin City! Full house!”
Whoever wins the rubber match could have a shot at the title. According to McGregor’s manager, the third fight between McGregor and Poirier could be for the #1 contender and the winner of this match could face the winner of Michael Chandler VS Charles Oliviera for the title. He said, “I think that only makes sense”
Whereas, Dustin Poirier believes that Conor McGregor doesn’t deserve a title shot as the Irishman is currently ranked at #6 and has been on a run of poor form since making his return to the Octagon. McGregor has already predicted that he is going to knock Poirier out with a front kick in the fourth round of the match. This time, McGregor will be aware of Dustin’s leg kicks which were the highlight of UFC 257 but let’s see what new tricks the Diamond has up his sleeve for UFC 264. This is one we CANNOT wait to watch!!!
