Man’s Life Premier League Team Of The Week 21

Premier League TOTW 21
A A A tT

It was another high-octane weekend of English Premier League football with Manchester City stretching their winning streak in the Premier League to 8 games, Chelsea winning their first game under new manager Tomas Tuchel and Brighton registering an upset over Tottenham. In the marquee game of the weekend, Arsenal held Manchester United to a 0-0 draw at home while Liverpool managed to continue their momentum from mid-week with another away victory in the capital. There were plenty of eye-catching performances across all the games, so here is our Team of the Week.

GK: Emiliano Martinez (Aston Villa)

The Aston Villa shot-stopper was almost impenetrable against Southampton, making 4 saves as Aston Villa came away from the South Coast with all 3 points.

RB: Cesar Azpilicueta (Chelsea)

The Chelsea captain kept a clean sheet and scored a fine goal to open the scoring against Burnley to hand Tomas Tuchel his first victory in the Premier League.

CB: Rob Holding (Arsenal)

Rob Holding was imperious at the back for Arsenal as they managed to keep the likes of Cavani, Rashford, Fernandes and Pogba quiet. Holding made 10 clearances, 6 recoveries and 2 tackles to give Arsenal a precious clean-sheet.

CB: Jordan Henderson (Liverpool)

Henderson was once again asked to fill in at centre half due to Liverpool’s injury crisis and looked completely at ease. Henderson completely neutralized the threat of Antonio and helped Liverpool to a crucial victory in the context of the title race.

LB: Marcos Alonso (Chelsea)

After falling out with Lampard, Alonso marked his return to the Chelsea side with a superb goal and was a constant attacking threat down Chelsea’s left-hand side.

RM: Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)

Salah broke his goal-scoring drought with 2 stunning goals against West-Ham. The first was a typical Salah goal cutting in from the wing, while the second goal was a blistering counter-attack which will be in the conversation for one of the goals of the season.

CM: Pascal Gross (Brighton)

Gross ran the show against Tottenham to hand Brighton their first home win of 2021. The German made 5 key passes on the night and registered the assist for Leandro Trossard’s winning goal.

CM: Georginio Wijnaldum (Liverpool)

Wijnaldum was back to his best against West Ham. He controlled the game from midfield alongside Thiago and capped it off with a well-worked team goal to seal the 3 points for the reds.

LM: Jack Harrison (Leeds United)

Jack Harrison has now scored in consecutive games for Leeds and was incredibly impressive against Leicester City. Harrison worked incredibly hard for the team off the ball and was a constant threat down the left-hand-side for Leeds.

ST: Patrick Bamford (Leeds United)

Patrick Bamford was involved in all three goals for Leeds United at the King Power Stadium. He scored his 11th goal of the season with a stunning strike in the second half, and also managed to provide the assists for the other two goals.

ST: Callum Wilson (Newcastle United)

Callum Wilson was once again the saviour for Newcastle United at the weekend. His brace gave Newcastle their first victory in the Premier League in 9 games.

Manager of the week: Graham Potter (Brighton)

Graham Potter out-thought Jose Mourinho to hand Brighton a much-needed victory against Tottenham Hotspur. This victory gives the Seagulls some breathing room in the relegation battle and a chance to move up the table.
