Man’s Life Premier League 2021-22 Team Of The Week 34

There was plenty of exhilarating action in the Premier League on matchday 34 as Liverpool and Manchester City continued their winning ways, Arsenal swept aside Manchester United in North London while Tottenham suffered another slip up in the race for the top four following their 0-0 draw against Brentford.

There were some stunning performances from the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka on matchday 34, and here is our Man’s Life Premier League Team of the Week.

PL TOTW_Week 34

GK: Illan Meslier (Leeds United) 

Illan Meslier made seven saves for Leeds United at Selhurst Park to help Jesse Marsch’s side earn a crucial point on their travels in their fight for survival in the Premier League.

RB: Cristian Romero (Tottenham)

Although Tottenham came away from Griffin Park with a disappointing 0-0 result, Spurs defender Cristian Romero produced another stellar display, completing 51 of his 55 passes while also making three blocks and two clearances.

CB: Nathan Collins (Burnley)

Nathan Collins won three aerial duels and made four clearances in a superb all-round defensive display for Burnley in their much-needed 1-0 victory over Wolves at Turf Moor.

CB: Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)

Virgil van Dijk put in another imperious performance for Liverpool in the Merseyside derby, with the Dutchman patrolling the backline with a zen-like calmness and leading the Reds to a comfortable 2-0 win over Everton.

LB: Andrew Robertson (Liverpool)

The Liverpool full-backs continued to be the difference-makers for the side in attack as Andrew Robertson grabbed his second goal of the season to break the deadlock in the second half and give the Reds an important three points.

CM: Granit Xhaka (Arsenal)

Granit Xhaka stood up to the task in the Arsenal midfield in the absence of Thomas Partey, with the Swiss international controlling the proceedings through the middle of the park and capping off his excellent performance with his first goal of the season from distance.

CM: Kevin de Bruyne (Manchester City)

Kevin de Bruyne returned to the Manchester City line-up against Watford at the weekend, and the Belgian magician supplied a couple of assists as the Cityzens cantered to a 5-1 victory over the Hornets.

CM: James Ward-Prowse (Southampton)

James Ward-Prowse provided another reminder over the weekend that he is the best set-piece taker in world football, as the Englishman scored his fourth free-kick of the season to help Southampton come back from 2-0 behind against Brighton.

RW: Bukayo Saka (Arsenal)

After scoring a penalty in mid-week at Stamford Bridge, Bukayo Saka added another at the weekend against Manchester United, making him the youngest player in Premier League history to score a penalty in consecutive appearances.

ST: Gabriel Jesus (Manchester City)

In a week where Gabriel Jesus was linked with a move away from Manchester City, the Brazilian striker showed why he is deserving of a spot in their first XI, scoring four goals in the Cityzen’s thumping 5-1 victory over Watford. 

LW: Joelinton (Newcastle United)

Joelinton’s revival at Newcastle in 21/22 continued on Matchday 34 as the Brazilian grabbed the first Premier League brace of his career on his 100th league game for the side.

Manager of the week: Mikel Arteta (Arsenal)

After a tough string of three losses, Mikel Arteta has turned things around to put Arsenal in the drivers’ seat for the top four with two marquee victories in four days against Chelsea and Manchester United.
