It was a whirlwind weekend of action in the Premier League on Matchday 12 with 36 goals scored across the 10 matches. Tottenham finally earned their first league win under Antonio Conte, Liverpool thrashed Arsenal 4-0 while Manchester United suffered a humiliating 4-1 defeat to Watford which eventually proved to be the final nail in the coffin for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
There have been plenty of stunning performances across the country, and here is our Man’s Life Premier League Team of the Week.
GK: Emiliano Martinez (Aston Villa)
The Argentinian pulled off a couple of important saves from Trossard and Lamptey in the first half to keep the scores level and was a calming influence on the Villa backline while playing the ball out from the back.
RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool)
After registering three assists for England during the international break, Trent Alexander-Arnold carried that form into the Premier League as the full-back tormented Arsenal down the right-wing and assisted two of Liverpool’s four goals on the night.
CB: James Tarkowski (Burnley)
James Tarkowski imposed himself with authority in both boxes against Crystal Palace, winning 12 of his 14 aerial duels and registering two assists in a six-goal thriller at Turf Moor.
CB: Tyrone Mings (Aston Villa)
The Aston Villa captain Tyrone Mings put in a commanding performance against Brighton, marshalling his defence with authority before sealing the victory with a deserved goal in the second period.
LB: Joao Cancelo (Manchester City)
Joao Cancelo played one of the passes of the season for Manchester City’s opener against Everton, unpicking the entire Toffees defence with a perfectly-weighted cross from the outside of his boot to find Raheem Sterling in the box.
CM: N’Golo Kante (Chelsea)
N’Golo Kante was a menace in attack and defence against his former employers Leicester City, constantly winning the ball in midfield and capping off his performance with a brilliant goal from 20 yards off his weaker foot.
CM: Rodri (Manchester City)
Rodri was the standout performer in Manchester City’s 3-0 win over Everton, breaking up the play and dictating the tempo from midfield before launching a stunning strike from distance in the second half to seal the victory.
CM: Thiago (Liverpool)
Thiago barely put a foot wrong in Liverpool’s 4-0 demolition of Arsenal at Anfield, pulling the strings from midfield like an NFL quarterback and getting Liverpool on the front foot at every available opportunity.
RW: Emmanuel Dennis (Watford)
Emmanuel Dennis terrorized the Manchester United defence with his pace and trickery, bagging two assists and a goal as Watford ran rampant in a 4-1 victory over the Red Devils.
LW: Sadio Mane (Liverpool)
Sadio Mane scored his seventh Premier League goal of the season with an excellent header into the bottom corner and caused the Arsenal backline nightmares with his movement and pressing.
ST: Christian Benteke (Crystal Palace)
The Belgian striker led the line brilliantly for Crystal Palace, bringing others into play with his excellent hold-up play and finishing off his two goals in clinical fashion.
Manager of the week: Steven Gerrard (Aston Villa)
The manager of the week has to be Steven Gerrard, who began his Premier League management career with an impressive 2-0 victory at home to Brighton, thereby ending Aston Villa’s five-match losing streak.
