Man’s Life Premier League 2021-22 Team Of The Season
A A A tT

It’s been another memorable season of Premier League football in 2021/22, with Manchester City and Liverpool dominating once again, while other big clubs such as Manchester United and Chelsea have failed to live up to expectations. Individually, there have been plenty of stars who have been incredibly consistent across the whole campaign, and here is our Premier League Team of the Season.

Man’s Life Premier League 2021-22 Team Of The Season

GOALKEEPER

Edouard Mendy enjoyed a stellar start to the season for Chelsea, while Jose Sa was the best pure shot-stopper in the league, but no keeper had as much impact on their team as Alisson. The Brazilian has kept the highest number of clean sheets amongst all goalkeepers in the Premier League this season (20) and continued to make vital saves for Liverpool in clutch situations to bail them out of trouble. Although he can be a little sloppy with the ball at his feet, Alisson has saved the Reds nearly five goals this season with his shot-stopping – according to post-shot xG – and has an outstanding save percentage of 75.5%.

DEFENCE

At right-back, three Englishman were deserving of a spot in the team of the season – Kyle Walker, Reece James and Trent Alexander-Arnold – but for his consistency and ridiculous impact on his team this season, the Liverpool star gets the nod. Alexander-Arnold has managed ten or more assists for the third season in the league, and the right-back has also improved defensively in terms of his awareness and ability to defend 1v1 situations.

On the left side, Andrew Robertson dominated the second half of the season after a quiet start for Liverpool, but Joao Cancelo has been one of the most pivotal cogs in the Manchester City machine that are likely to win their second title in a row. The Portuguese’s technical ability and security have played a big part in City’s ability to control games and stifle teams with their possession.

In central defence, Virgil van Dijk is a certainty given his return to form after a year-long injury, but choosing his partner was a little less straightforward. Antonio Rudiger, Ruben Dias, Ben White, and Cristian Romero all have worthy cases to be in the team, but the spot goes to Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace. In just his first season in the Premiership, Guehi has been phenomenal for the Eagles, helping Palace keep the sixth-best defensive record in the league.

MIDFIELD

It is an all-Manchester City midfield in my team of the season, with Rodri partnered by his club-mates Kevin de Bruyne and Bernardo Silva. This City trio have been the heartbeat of the best team in the league this season, and individually, all three of them are deserving of a spot. Kevin de Bruyne has been a phenom in the second half of the season, scoring a career-high 15 goals to go along with his ten assists.

Bernardo Silva and Rodri’s impact, on the other hand, is a little more difficult to measure in terms of output, but both midfielders have been world class all season long for Pep Guardiola’s side and have been the backbone behind their title-winning campaign.

ATTACK

In attack, Mohamad Salah is a no-brainer considering he is leading the league in both goals (22) and assists (13) heading into the final matchday of the season. Although Salah has dropped off in terms of production since the AFCON and has plenty of competition from wingers such as Bukayo Saka and Jarrod Bowen, the Egyptian’s body of work this campaign and impact from August to January guarantees him a spot in the team of the season.

Joining him are the two Tottenham forwards, Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane. Son has the most non-penalty goals in the Premier League this season (21) and could rival Salah for the golden boot on the final matchday, while Kane has returned to his best since his tough start to the campaign, returning 16 goals and eight assists.
