The second game week of the 2021-22 Indian Super League season had its share of twists and turns with Hyderbad FC putting an end to Mumbai City FC’s undefeated run with a 3-1 victory while FC Goa conceded three Goals for a second week running. ATK Mohun Bagan now remains the only team to have a 100% record after two matchdays, so let’s have a look at the players who made it to the Team of the Week for Week 2.

After Amrinder Singh’s surprising switch from Mumbai City FC to ATK Mohun Bagan after winning the ISL last season, it was the first time we saw the 28-year-old Indian goalkeeper at his best. Overall, he didn’t have much to do in the game but whenever SC East Bengal broke on a counter he made sure to get away with that valuable clean sheet.

RB: Pritam Kotal – ATK Mohun Bagan

An unsung hero in ATK Mohun Bagan’s 3-0 thumping against SC East Bengal was the Indian right-back Pritam Kotal who stayed high up the pitch and kept the pressure going. The 29-year-old right-back was also the player who created the most number chances in the match (3)

CB: Marko Leskovic – Kerala Blasters FC

The 30-year-old Croatian, Marko Leskovic played a vital role in Kerala Blaster’s 0-0 draw against Northeast United. Leskovic left the pitch with the most number of completed passes (44) and with zero misplaced passes. That’s the kind of stats you expect from a defender.

CB: Chinglensana Singh – Hyderabad FC

Partnering Leskovic in the team of the week is Hyderabad FC’s Chanlensana Singh, who despite being shown a yellow card did extremely well to keep what is known to be one of the best attacks in the league at bay. In the 90 minutes he played, the Indian CB only lost one duel and wasn’t dispossessed at all.

LB: Ricky Lallawmawma – Jamshedpur FC

A player who has struggled his entire career is finally back on track. Ricky Lallawmawma, the left-back of Jamshedpur FC gave no room to the FC Goa wingers to make a move down the left flank as his side went on to score three goals.

CM: Greg Stewart – Jamshedpur FC

A crucial player in Hyderabad FC’s squad this season is their 33-year-old new signing Joao Victor. The Brazilian controlled the tempo of the game as the Nizams cruised past the Islanders and he got also himself on the scoresheet from the penalty spot.

CM: Manvir Singh – ATK Mohun Bagan

Manvir Singh had one of the best games of his career against SC East Bengal. The 26-year-old midfielder scored ATK Mohun Bagan’s second goal as he simply ran down the right flank and smashed the ball into the top right corner making the goal a “goal of the week” contender.

LW: Liston Calaco – ATK Mohun Bagan

Liston Colaco of ATK Mohun Bagan makes it to our Team of the week for a second week running as he continues his goal-scoring form. A horrendous mistake by East Bengal goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharya awarded an open goal for the 23-year-old winger who made no error slotting it home.

RW: Nerijus Valskis – Jamshedpur FC

Nerijus Valskis bagged two outstanding goals in Jamshedpur’s win over FC Goa. The first one was a simple left-foot shot that was placed right into the bottom-left corner giving the keeper no chance and the second one was a proper striker’s header. This performance earned him the man of the match award and most probably the player of the week as well.

ST: Roy Krishna – ATK Mohun Bagan

You simply cannot ignore Roy Krishna’s brilliance on the ball which we have seen for over three years now. The Fiji International is back with his goal-scoring form bagging two goals in two matches. Against SC East Bengal this week, he showed he’s one of the most lethal strikers in the ISL when he volleyed the ball right across the goalkeeper’s face to break the deadlock in that fixture.

Manager of the Week: Antonio Lopez Habas – ATK Mohun Bagan

After finishing second in last season’s group stage, Antonio Habas’ side wants to top the table this time. After two game weeks, ATK Mohun Bagan finds themselves at the top of the league with a 100% record as of now. His side has gone on to score a total of seven goals already while conceding just two.
