Justin Gaethje VS Michael Chandler: Preview & Prediction

Justin Gaethje VS Michael Chandler

Highlight

Before the two big title fights at UFC 268, #2 Lightweight contender Justin Gaethje will finally make his MMA return after a year to take on #4 ranked Michael Chandler in a three-round bout.

Justin “The Highlight” Gaethje (23-3-0) hasn’t stepped into the octagon since his lost title opportunity to former Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and will finally walk back into the octagon to take on Michael “Iron” Chandler (22-6-0) who is also coming off a loss in a championship fight against current Lightweight Champion Charles Oliviera. With Dustin Poirier now in line to face Oliviera for the title, there’s a slight chance that the winner of this fight could have a shot at UFC gold sometime next year.

Many of us wanted this fight to be a five-rounder and there were serious talks going on between Dana White and both the fighters for this fight but The Highlight made it clear in one of his press conferences that he won’t fight for five rounds. He said, “ F**k that. Why would I sign up for two more rounds? I get paid the same. I get paid the same, at the end of the day. If I’m gonna ever suffer a critical, chronic, or ultimately death in that cage, it will be in round four or five. So I’ll save those for championship fights or main events.”

PREDICTION: JUSTIN GAETHJE TO WIN VIA KO

Over the years, we have seen Justin Gaethje outclass his opponents inside the octagon. Against Michael Chandler, Gaethje holds a 2’ inch height and reach advantage which will allow him to land more significant strikes from distance. Many would predict this fight to go to the judge’s score but we think that it’s his leg kicks that are going to make a huge difference and put Chandler to sleep.

The only way we think that Chandler has a chance to win this fight is to close the gap between him and his opponent and try and take things to the canvas but the former Bellator fighter believes that he’ll be able to knock The Highlight out in round 3 of the fight just like Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier have done in the past. He said, “I think we get into a firefight, we stand toe to toe, we entertain you guys for 12 to 13 minutes, and I finish by TKO or clean KO in the third round.”
