While season 15 of the IPL has seen some incredible individual performances from high-profile stars such as KL Rahul, Jos Buttler and Yuzvendra Chahal, there have also been quite a few big names who have failed to turn up to the races. Some of IPL’s biggest stars have been extremely disappointing in 2022 due to a lack of form and confidence and have struggled to replicate the high level of performance they have displayed in previous seasons.

Here are the five most underperforming players in IPL 2022.

5. Ravindra Jadeja (Chennai Super Kings)

Having been appointed as MS Dhoni’s successor as CSK captain, there were high hopes for Ravindra Jadeja in season 15 of the IPL. However, instead of rising to the occasion, the all-rounder crumbled under the weight of expectations this campaign, with the burden of captaincy weighing him down. After having three incredible seasons in the IPL since 2019, the left-hander’s form nosedived with both bat and ball in 2022. Jadeja managed only 116 runs in ten matches at a strike rate of 118 while also picking up just five wickets at an average of nearly 50 for CSK this season.

4. Rohit Sharma (Mumbai Indians)

The Mumbai Indians have suffered their worst IPL campaign in 2022 – lingering at the bottom of the table with nine losses in 12 matches– and a big reason behind their underperformance has been the lack of runs from Rohit Sharma. Sharma was retained by Mumbai for Rs. 16 Cr ahead of season 15, but the Mumbai captain has struggled to show that he was worth the top dollar in 2022. Sharma has failed to score a single 50+ score in the IPL this season, averaging just 18 in 12 games at a strike rate of 125.

3. Kieron Pollard (Mumbai Indians)

Another seasoned Mumbai Indians veteran who is having a historically bad season in IPL 2022 has been their star all-rounder, Kieron Pollard. The West Indian has averaged just 14 at a strike rate of 107 this campaign, and bowlers and opposition teams seem to have figured out how to restrict the hard-hitting Trinidadian. Pollard has struggled against quick wrist-spin and hit the deck bowlers, in particular, and if this form persists, we may be witnessing the end of one of the most decorated careers and in IPL history.

2. Virat Kohli (Royal Challengers Bangalore)

Virat Kohli is enduring the worst IPL season of his career in 2022, with the former RCB captain looking like a shadow of his former self this campaign. Kohli has hit new lows in season 15 of the competition, managing three golden ducks in 12 innings and averaging just 19 at a strike rate of 11. Kohli has continued to find new ways to dismiss himself in 2022 and has struggled to accelerate against the spinners through the middle overs in nearly every innings this season.

1. Kane Williamson (Sunrisers Hyderabad)

The Sunrisers Hyderabad’s decision to retain Kane Williamson for Rs. 14 Cr ahead of the 2022 auction could be one of the worst moves in IPL history, with the captain suffering a cataclysmic loss of form this season. Despite opening the innings for SRH and batting almost exclusively in the powerplay, Williamson is scoring less than a run a ball in IPL 2022 and averaging just 19 runs per wicket. Williamson’s tennis elbow injury may be causing him some discomfort, but nothing can explain this unprecedented level of underperformance, with the New Zealander having the lowest powerplay strike rate in a single season IPL history for those who have batted 100 balls or more.
