The extraordinary talent that is Erling Haaland looks set to stay at Borussia Dortmund. Since joining the Bundesliga side in January 2020, Haaland has bagged fifty-three goals in just fifty-five appearances for this club and has become one of the hottest properties in world football today. This goal-scoring machine has attracted the attention of some top clubs across Europe like Real Madrid, Manchester City, Barcelona, Manchester United among several others.
For Dortmund fans, there is nothing to worry about, as their club director Micheal Zorc says, “No Matter where we end up, Erling Haaland will continue to play for us”.

Haaland’s agent Mino Riola also confirmed that the player won’t be leaving the German side. He said, “I can confirm I was in Dortmund to talk. Michael Zorc let us know very clearly that Borussia Dortmund doesn’t want to sell Haaland this summer. I respect that opinion but it doesn’t mean that I agree with it. Borussia were very clear about their mindset and approach and we agree about that”
Currently, Borussia Dortmund is struggling in the Bundesliga despite the twenty-three goals scored by Haaland this season. The club is currently battling to qualify for a Champions League spot under interim coach Edin Terzic. Dortmund trail Eintracht Frankfurt by just four points for fourth, for the final qualification spot for the 2021-22 UCL campaign. It’s going to be a challenge for the German side as they face Wolfsburg, RB Leipzig, FSV Mainz, and Bayer Leverkusen in their final four matches of the 2020-21 Bundesliga season. With the team having difficulties in securing a UCL spot, they look likely to do everything they can to keep their star striker around for another season, as they try to return to European football next season.
Haaland’s contract has 3 more seasons on it and the release clause is set to contain plenty of performance related variables, which could take his potential fee to more than 80 million Euros. Dortmund could make significantly more money if they choose to cash in and sell Haaland this summer but it looks likely that Haaland will stay for at least one more season and activate the release clause.
