Fantasy Premier League has received its first curveball of the season, with Tottenham’s trip to Brighton postponed due to a Covid-19 outbreak in the Spurs camp.
Managers owning the likes of Harry Kane, Son and Reguilon will have to sell their Spurs assets for this Matchday due to the blank fixture and here are the players to target in FPL in Gameweek 16.
GK: Aaron Ramsdale (ARS) – £5.0m
The Arsenal shot-stopper has earned the most FPL points amongst goalkeepers since coming to the Gunners lineup in Gameweek 4 and could keep his 7th clean sheet of the season against a Southampton side who have only scored thrice in their last five away trips.
Defence – Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.1m) | Joao Cancelo (£6.8m) | Reece James (£6.1m)
In defence, the premium combination of Trent Alexander Arnold, Joao Cancelo and Reece James is once again the way to go with all three players having easy home games against teams outside the top seven in the Premier League.
Cancelo and Alexander Arnold are the top two scoring players in the game after Mohamed Salah, while Reece James has eight goals and assists in just eight league starts this season
MID: Bernardo Silva (LEE) – £7.6m
Bernardo Silva has registered 25 points in Manchester City’s last two fixtures in the league, and after a rest in midweek, the Portuguese is guaranteed to start for Pep Guardiola’s side at home to Wolves.
MID: Bukayo Saka (MCI) – £6.2m
With Emile Smith Rowe injured, Bukayo Saka is the Arsenal player to target for FPL managers with both his goals so far this season coming at home. Saka could add to that tally this weekend with Arsenal taking on a Southampton side marred by injuries that have conceded nine goals in their last four games.
MID: Mason Mount (TOT) – £7.5m
Mason Mount has registered four goals and assists in Chelsea’s last two league appearances, and the Blues midfielder has 10 goal contributions in only eight starts this season.
MID: Mohamed Salah (LIV) – £13.0m
Mohamed Salah is yet to blank in FPL since gameweek three and scored three goals against Aston Villa last season, making him the go-top captaincy choice once again this weekend.
MID: Jarrod Bowen (WHU) – £6.5m
Jarrod Bowen has averaged 2.5 shots in the box per 90 mins since gameweek five, and has recorded the highest expected goals amongst the non-Liverpool midfielders in that time, making him an excellent long-term budget option for your midfield.
FWD: Jamie Vardy (LEI) – £10.7m
Jamie Vardy takes on a Newcastle United side that have recorded just one clean sheet this season, and the striker has scored a league-high six goals at home in 2021/22.
FWD: Josh King (WAT) – £5.8m
Josh King has had at least one big chance in four of the previous seven games, and the Watford striker has emerged as an excellent budget forward option after taking 20 shots in the box since gameweek 9.
Captaincy Pick
While Aston Villa have shown good numbers defensively this season since the arrival of Steven Gerrard, Mohamed Salah is still the way to go for captaincy considering his ownership and pedigree this season. However, two players who could rival him for the armband in Gameweek 16 are Cristiano Ronaldo and Jamie Vardy, with both strikers taking on teams in the relegation places this weekend.
