Sandesh Jhinghan was a crucial player for the Mariners team that came runner up last season in the Indian Super League. The team from Kolkata wanted Jhinghan to stay but the defender chose to give European Football a try. So, the 28-year-old center back decided to join the HNK Sibenik back in August.

The move did not fall in favor of the defender as he picked up an injury in his second training session with the club and could not bag any caps for them. Every time he thought he was close to making his debut, his calf injury that occurred four times in the last three months, pulled him down.

After spending months on the sidelines, the Indian defender mutually terminated his contract with the Croatian side to rejon his former club ATK Mohun Bagan. Jhingan took to Twitter to write an emotional message for the Mariners fans. He wrote, “ I am very happy to join ATK Mohun Bagan. They are a family to me and have always supported me no matter what, especially for the past few months when me and my family both struggled a lot because of my injury and off field setbacks. Now I am back home and fully motivated to have a great season and bring joy to our loyal fans.” Meanwhile, a club statement said that, “ Sandesh Jhingan is back, the story continues. He will play the rest of the season in green-and-maroon jersey, giving a boost to the defence of Juan Fernando”

This move is a huge boost to ATK Mohun Bagan’s backline who have managed to keep just one clean sheet and conceded a total of eighteen goals in the nine games they have played this season so far.
