A player like Roy Krishna needs no introduction. In his three seasons in the Indian Super League, the Fiji International has scored 36 goals and 18 assists while being the joint top-scorer twice. In the 2019-20 season of the Hero Indian Super League, Krishna’s 15 goals played an important part in ATK’s road to glory. He backed that up with 14 goals in the following season as he picked up his second golden boot.

The 34-year-old striker parted ways with ATK Mohun Bagan in June and was a free agent. After the Mariners announced the departure of their star striker Kerala Blasters and NorthEast United FC were interested in the Fijian but the former Wellington Phoenix forward found Simon Grayson’s plans suitable for his style of play and joined Bengaluru FC on a two-year contract.
The Blues haven’t finished inside the top 4 for two seasons now, but with Roy Krishna coming in, things might look different for them this season. BFC have made a huge change to their squad and signing Roy was a part of the process. Krishna was Simon Grayson’s sixth signing of the season. Having signed players such as Javi Hernandez, Prabir Das, Faisal Ali, Amrit Gope and Hira Mondal and given contract extension to several youth players its clear that the Blues have gone for their proven formula of having a mixture of youth and experience in their squad.

Only time will tell whether this revamp is going to work or not, but signing Krishna is definitely going to be the signing of the season.

“I’m really excited to join Bengaluru FC. I had conversations with the coach when I was in the early stages of negotiations and he really convinced me that I would have an impact at the club. I’ve always admired the way Bengaluru played and organized itself over the years that I’ve played in India.” said the Fiji international following his move to BFC.
As for the club, Head coach Simon Grayson said, “Krishna is a big signing for the football club and one that I’m delighted we made. Roy has proven over the years what a fantastic footballer and goalscorer he has been, and his experience and know-how of the ISL will also prove to be a big plus for us.”
