Jake Paul’s rise in the world of boxing isn’t stopping any time soon as he wrapped up his year with a one-punch knockout finish against 5-time former UFC Champion Tyron Woodley in their rematch.
The Problem Child’s 5th victory in professional boxing had nothing but cliches and boos from the crowd in Saturday’s rematch against former UFC Welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. After five rounds of clinching, the Youtube star delivered the big one to put Woodley to sleep. The finish was set up beautifully, a faint jab to the body which was followed by a heavy right hand to knock Woodley out after 2:12 of round 6.
There was no better time for Paul to finish the fight as the rematch had dissolved into a holding contest with a low output, but as soon as Paul delivered the big blow, the crowd inside Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida went wild. Paul turned his back and walked straight towards the corner turnbuckle and wildly rejoiced with his elder brother Logan Paul.
In the six rounds the two fought, Paul remained the busier boxer with the scorecards reading 49-46, 48-46, and 49-46 all in favor of the Problem Child. Both the boxers landed equal numbers of punches but it was Paul’s power Punches that connected with an accuracy of 41%.
After the fight, Paul shared a moment of respect between him and his opponent as he said, “Woodley is a legend, don’t take anything away from his career as a UFC Champion. He took this fight on two weeks’ notice because Tommy Fury is a bitch. That’s a tough guy right there (in Woodley), he’s a legend. He tried to catch the punch in front and like a lumberjack, timber”
“This has to be the greatest moment in my life, look at the year I just had. This is unprecedented. Four huge PPVs in 12 months and I knocked out everyone I saw”
What’s next for the Problem child?
Since taking out former UFC champion Tyron Woodley twice, it looks like Jake Paul is after some big names in UFC. In the post-fight conference, he called out the likes of Nate Diaz, Jorge Masvidal, McGregor, and Kamaru Usman. He said, “ I just knocked out a five-time UFC Champion and embarrassed your whole company. Please, please let me get Kamaru Usman, please let me get Diaz, please let me get Masvidal, please let me get McGregor because I’m going to embarrass them too. I promise you that, Dana (UFC President)”
