The fight was a pretty one-sided affair but had a lot of interesting moments from both the fighters to keep fans intrigued the entire way. Dariush kept throwing punches at Ferguson through the first round, which put Ferguson into defense mode. Beneil waited for his moment and took Ferguson down to the canvas which was clearly his game plan all along. Ferguson then did well to use the rubber guard and both the fighters stayed on guard until the end of the round. The second round saw Ferguson grabbing the upper hand as he attempted a D’Arce choke which was locked in. Beneil did well to remain calm and get out of the choke and both of them started to land ground and pound punches on each other till Beneil got Ferguson into the leg lock position. It was evident that Tony Ferguson was in great pain but the Mexican didn’t give in and refused to tap. The third round wasn’t as action-packed as Beneil could see the victory and just wanted to hold off Ferguson from causing any damage and so decided to take Ferguson to the canvas again and held his position till the end of the round and won the fight on Unanimous Decision with the judges scoring 30-27.

In the post-match octagon interview, he called out Tesla CEO, Elon Musk. He said, “Joe, I want to call out your buddy Elon! Elon Musk! Where is my wife’s car, bro?! I have been waiting for six months! I’m having a baby. I need a big car; I need to protect my daughter. Let’s go, Elon, get me my car!”

Beneil also told Joe Rogan that he heard Tony Ferguson’s knee pop out when he performed a heel hook on El Cucuy, but the former interim lightweight champion just did not throw in the towel and stood back up for the final round. He compared Ferguson to a “zombie”, implying that he is someone who could come back from the dead.

This victory took Beneil Dariush’s win streak to seven fights, which now includes a victory against UFC veteran, Tony Ferguson (26-6-0) who faced his sixth career loss and third in a row.  With that in mind, UFC might have him step back and fight someone in the bottom half of the rankings. As for Dariush, he could face the loser of the Dustin Poirier VS Conor McGregor fight, which takes place in June at UFC 264 in a title eliminator, but is likely to take a break from fighting as he is about to become a father…who clearly wants his Tesla.
