2022 could be the year when Neymar cements his legacy alongside the likes of legends such as Pele and Ronaldo as he looks to take Brazil to another World Cup title. The samba superstar will be heading to his third World Cup in Qatar, and the PSG forward has been unstoppable in the first half of the season. The Brazilian has scored 11 goals and assisted another nine for the French champions in Ligue 1, helping them remain unbeaten and establish a five-point lead in the table.

Neymar also has the added incentive of becoming the all-time top scorer in Brazil’s history at this World Cup, with the 30-year-old just three goals shy of breaking Pele’s record of 77 strikes.

4. Jude Bellingham – England

Midfield is the area of the pitch in which England have come up short in the years gone by in major tournaments, with the likes of Luka Modric or Marco Verratti dominating pulling the strings in the middle of the park to dominate the Three Lions. However, Jude Bellingham could be the solution to those problems for Gareth Southgate’s side in Qatar, with the 19-year-old displaying some tremendous form for Borussia Dortmund in 2022.

Bellingham has nine goals and three assists in all competitions for the German club this season, and his ball-carrying and dynamism from midfield could provide the x-factor that England lacked in their last two tournaments under Southgate.

3. Kylian Mbappe – France

Kylian Mbappe became the first teenager since Pele to score at a FIFA World Cup final in 2018 in Moscow, and the French sensation could take his legacy to greater heights in 2022 with another title on the biggest stage. Mbappe has matured immensely as a player in the four years since Qatar, scoring 39 goals and assisting a further 26 last season for PSG. The 23-year-old is now one of the premier attacking talents in world football and will play a central role for Les Bleus as they look to defend their World Cup title in Qatar.

2. Jamal Musiala – Germany

Jamal Musiala is one of the most exciting young talents in world football and the German wonderkid could be one of the young stars that sets the 2022 FIFA World Cup alight in Qatar. Musiala is blessed with unimaginable close control, and his electric dribbling and keen eye for the goal evoke some similarities with Brazilian and AC Milan legend Kaka. Musiala burst onto the scenes and established himself as one of the mainstays in the Bayern Munich line-up as a teenager, and the 19-year-old already has nine goals and six assists for the Bavarian giants in the Bundesliga in 2022.

All eyes will be on Lionel Messi in Qatar as the world’s greatest player of the last 15 years gets one final shot at winning the biggest prize in football. The lack of a World Cup title has always been used against Messi when comparing him to other greats such as Pele or Maradona, but the Argentinian genius could end all those debates in 2022 if he takes his country to the title. Messi is arguably in the form of his life heading into the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the PSG forward scoring 12 goals and providing 14 assists for the French club in the first half of the season.
