The 2021 summer transfer window has been one like no other, with high profile stars such as Lionel Messi, Romelu Lukaku, Sergio Ramos and Jack Grealish changing allegiances and moving for big money this summer. While football spending continues to be subdued due to the impact of the pandemic, there has been plenty of money splashed on the top players this window, and here are 5 major transfers that could still happen until deadline day.

1. Harry Kane to Manchester City

The one transfer that has dominated the back pages since the start of the window has been Harry Kane to Manchester City. City have been desperate for a striker since Sergio Aguero left in the summer, and for Pep Guardiola the options seem to be Harry Kane or nothing. The Premier League champions have had a £100 million bid for Kane rejected in June but are rumoured to be returning with a bigger offer worth around £150 million.

2. Joules Kounde to Chelsea

The European Champions bolstered their ranks this summer with the addition of Romelu Lukaku at centre-forward, but the London club are still looking to spend in the transfer market and have been rumoured to be interested in defender Joules Kounde. The Sevilla centre-back was part of France’s squad for the European Championships and is valued at €70 million by the Spanish outfit. Kounde is a unicorn in football in terms of his athleticism, speed and technical profile and would be the perfect signing for Tomas Tuchel’s system on the right of the back three.

3. Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid

It feels like Kylian Mbappe was always destined to play for Real Madrid, and the rumours floating around Spanish media are that he could be a Madrid player by the end of August. Mbappe only has one year left on his contract with PSG and has expressed little desire to stay at the club, which would prompt the French club to sell him this summer instead of losing him on a free transfer next year.

Real Madrid haven’t spent a penny on transfers in the last two windows with all the money received from selling players such as Varane, Odegaard, Hakimi and Reguilon earmarked for the addition of the world’s next big superstar.

4. Eduardo Camavinga to Manchester United

Another French starlet with only one year left on his contract is 19-year-old Eduardo Camavinga. The Rennes midfielder is sought after by a whole host of European clubs and is widely regarded as one of the best young central midfielders in the world. Like Mbappe, Camavinga has opted not to extend his contract and Rennes could sell the teenage sensation instead of losing him for free next year. The club most heavily linked with Camavinga throughout the summer has been Manchester United, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer desperately needing a central midfielder to bolster their title challenge.

5. Saul Niguez to Chelsea

Saul Niguez has been linked with a move away from Atletico Madrid throughout the summer after being deemed surplus to requirements at the capital with the arrival of Rodrigo De Paul and the form of Koke. The Spaniard was earlier mooted to be involved in a swap deal with Barcelona for Antoine Griezmann but is now closely linked with a whole host of English clubs such as Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea. There is plenty of competition for Saul’s signature but Tomas Tuchel’s side are currently leading the race to sign the Spaniard on a loan deal with an option to buy.
