Keep your feet and look fresh in these six warm-weather must-haves
Hitting the beach this weekend? You’ll need a good pair of sandals or flip-flops. Running errands around town in the summer sun? Basic white sneakers will keep things fresh and comfy. No matter what the day brings, breathable shoes are a hot-weather essential. Here’s our line-up of feet-friendly summer footwear….
Free your toes this summer! Summertime in India is harsh and a pair of sturdy sandals is a must in any shoe closet. Soft leathers are ideal, as they’re breathable. Just make sure to choose a pair that fits you just right. If you don’t mind spending big bucks, get a Birkenstock sandal. It has recently hit our shores too! The brand is the first name in sandals—beloved by hipsters, Japanese streetwear gods, European jetsetters and cool people in general everywhere! Each pair boasts a contoured, malleable footbed for better comfort, all packaged in classic, easy-to-wear shape. Stick to black, navy, brown or tan hues.
Wear them with: Cuffed trousers, chinos or chino shorts
Easily summer’s laziest of footwears, the slides have gone upmarket this season. A hybrid of the flip-flop and the sandal that ditches the toe-rope entirely, opting instead for a strap goes across your feet. Most big brands have joined the slide bandwagon. We think it must have had to do something with loungewear climbing up the fashion charts thanks to the pandemic! It’s without doubt one of the most acceptable sandals a man can wear. A black-and-white pair is always a safe bet.
Wear them with: Tailored shorts and linen trousers (when you’re strictly on a tropical holiday)
They get a lot of hate for no particular reason, but these kinds of sandals have been around since the time of the Egyptian pharaohs and queens! So, whether it’s for lounging around in your house or actually wearing outside, it’s time to embrace the flip-flop. Upgrade your go-to flip-flops this summer with a cool graphic option for killer style. You can be beach-ready in them even if you have nowhere to go! Choose one with a sturdy sole for the poolside.
Wear them with: Shorts, jorts, pyjamas or swimming trunks
A pair of white sneakers with a minimalist design will take you from a lunch meeting to after-hours drinks effortlessly. Low-tops are extremely comfy and very fresh, making them ideal for summer. Canvas kicks only get better with wear over time for a lived-in look, and can be cleaned easily.
Wear them with: Chinos and denims
This, like sneakers, are great for those who hate to show their toes or getting those tan lines. Espadrilles have a care-free summer vibe and are the ultimate chill-out shoes. Light, easy-to-pack and comfortable, no wonder then why it’s a hit with men who are always on the go! Usually made from canvas or cotton with a jute rope sole, espadrilles are only meant for hot weather, as they will get dirty/soggy in the rain/snow.
Wear them with: A linen suit or shorts and a tee
Loafers are anything but shabby! A timeless classic, these shoes are an essential slip-on addition to a guy’s shoe collection. A good-quality loafer will only expand your formal shoe line up along with Derbies, brogues and Oxfords. A suede pair can easily be dressed up or down. Great for vacation, weekends or a quick run to the store! Just make sure to wear those invisible socks to prevent sweat and smelly feet.
Wear them with: Chinos and a blazer or shorts and a shirt
A good pedicure should be a no-brainer during summer as well, especially if you prefer wearing sandals or other open footwear.
