The year 2020 made it cool to be seen in your PJs. Celebrities and fashion influencers have made jammies a bona fide fashion staple by not only sharing pictures of lounging in them but wearing them outdoors. Fashion designers and labels also had to reimagine and reinterpret PJs, as they took over people’s wardrobes and became the official WFH outfit. Here’s how you can up your pyjama game and the styles you can get cosy with….

Nothing quite like a classic

Hey, if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it!  When you think of a pair of PJs, what first pops into your head? A set with long sleeves, piping details and buttoned-up top, in either pure cotton or satin. The traditional pyjama set is all things comfortable to lounge in, yet sexy enough to take you to a weekend brunch. Pyjama-style shirts have been popular in men’s fashion for a few seasons now; simply because they look so damn good on guys!

Lookup: Hollywood actor Ryan Gosling.  He was way ahead of the fashion curve and shut down the Cannes 2011 red carpet when he showed up in a satin navy, traditional pyjama-style shirt and paired it with perfectly tailored cream trousers. When loungewear meets casual dressing

Way before we were hit by a pandemic, a more relaxed style of menswear already had a cult following. Athleisure, the merger between comfy loungewear with uber-cool casualwear.  Athleisure is about laid-back cool and one that is a part of menswear from high-end brands, sportswear and high-street labels alike. Isn’t it pretty rad that it’s perfectly okay to now get out of bed, throw an overcoat/overlay over a T-shirt and joggers you wore to bed? A brave new world indeed!

Modern luxury

While conventional styles are still very popular, contemporary designs have crewnecks, buttonless overhead designs and more stretch. Men’s pyjamas are now available in decadent materials like cashmere, designer satin and silk that come in fun, quirky prints and colours. Comfort can be super stylish depending on how much you’re willing to spend on a pair of pyjamas.

Investing in the right pair of pyjamas can be a life changer! The swankiest pair of pyjamas can make chilling at home or WFH a breeze while comforting your weary bodies without compromising on style. Plus, you can head out to get your caffeine fix, just by throwing on a jacket or a pair of sunglasses.

Designers reimagined and reinterpreted the pyjama set like never before as they became an essential part of everyone’s closet this year because of the pandemic. From celebrities to fashion influencers everyone embraced the comfy trend and tried to experiment with the PJs in a way that they could be worn even outdoors. Fun, quirky prints and luxe fabrics were included to make the erstwhile boring loungewear trendier. And as the year 2020, draws to a close, the holiday season is here and fashionistas are opting for a floral pyjama set in lush fabrics to perk up their mood and up their loungewear dressing game. What makes these floral pyjama sets so popular? We speak to style experts.
