These tips are for days when you need a confidence boost!
Most of our fitness goals went for a toss during the lockdown. Not everyone is inclined to workout at home or have a home gym! So, cut yourself some slack, and don’t compare yourself with your friends who seem to have grown a six pack during this time! Be grateful that you survived a pandemic. All kinds of bodies are fabulous. These fashion tips will help you love yourself a little bit more on the days you need it the most…
There is a huge misconception amongst people that loose-fitting clothes are best for heavier set people. You couldn’t be more wrong. The first tip to ingrain into your brain is—form-fitting is the way forward. Baggy clothes don’t hide any flaws, they in fact, highlight them! Oversize clothes are the trend today, but they’re definitely a more flattering fit for someone with an athletic body! Buy clothes that fit just your body just right! Form-fitting clothes automatically make your body appear slimmer, giving you better shape!
If your abs are a ‘work in progress, wear your shirt untucked! Tucking in your shirt draws attention to your problem areas around the stomach. Wear shirts that are flat-bottomed (a shirt with a straight-bottom hem) and do not have curves at the bottom, to draw your eyes away from the belly. Avoid clothes that bunch around the waist! Refrain from wearing sweaters and jackets that have elastic bottoms. They rest awkwardly and add more volume to your midsection, when that’s the last thing you want!
You must have heard this time and again—black makes you appear thin! Well, it’s true. Black as a colour creates no shadows. No shadows mean, no contrast. Shadows add depth to your folds and bulges, and black, camouflages them in plain sight!
Smaller prints are preferred by the general public, but we say the bigger the print the better! The trick lies in not overwhelming the observer with tiny, compact prints. If you have more surface area to spare, go for larger designs, they definitely make an impact!
Bunching of fabrics anywhere around the body is unflattering to the eye. Like we mentioned before, the midriff is a touchy topic for some and wearing pleated pants does nothing for you. Flat-front pants in fact are a great addition to your wardrobe. They slim your waist and help you disguise a hefty bottom.
It’s common to mix and match clothes to create a contrast. However, if you want to look a little lighter, avoid contrasting colours. Wearing a dark shirt with light pants cuts you in half and will make you look stout! Wearing a huge black belt over light bottoms will make people look at your waist. It’s a big no-no! Instead, wear monochromatic looks!
Vertical lines are a saviour for those who want a tall, lean look. Vertical stripes draw your eyes upward, automatically making you look slimmer. Shirts with vertical stripes are a good addition to your formal wear. The same applies to suits and blazers. Pick up pinstripe suits the next time you are out shopping!
One of the tricks to look slimmer is knowing how to wear your jackets. When it comes to blazers and suit jackets, just button-up. A closed formal jacket cinches your waist creating the illusion of a slimmer midriff. When it comes to cardigans or bomber jackets, keep the jacket open. The unzipped and unbuttoned casual jacket adds a linear look to your physique, making you look leaner.
Crew necks or round neck T-shirts just make your face look rounder and body plumper than it actually may be. Instead, invest in a V-neck tee. It makes you look taller and doesn’t draw attention to the bits that make you uncomfortable!
When it comes to looking slim, clothes aren’t the only way forward. Grooming your hair and beard is a good way of creating a slimming illusion. Trim your hair and beard at an angle and you will discover a jawline you never knew existed. If you are too scared to do it yourself, head over to an expert and watch them create magic on your mane and beard.
At Man’s Life, we are all for body positivity. Having said that, we are all human, and there will be days when we need a bit more self love. Clothes are an instant way of boosting your body confidence when you find the right way to make them work for you. So, utilise these style hacks to not only look good, but also feel that way too!
