When Netflix and other OTT platforms launched in India, many mainstream actors refused to star in any of the shows or movies that were releasing on these platforms. Actors like Saif Ali Khan and Radhika Apte were the few mainstream Bollywood actors who decided that Netflix was worth their attention and time. But today, many of the mainstream actors are willing to star in these shows and in fact and excited to be doing so. We have seen actors like Manoj Bajpayee, Jaideep Ahlawat, Pratik Gandhi, Samantha, Vikrant Massey, and many more make huge names for themselves on the OTT circuit. In fact, Samantha became a mainstream pan Indian phenomenon after the second season of The Family Man released. Samantha‘s character in The Family Man was praised by one and all and she soon became a pan Indian star. Today, Samantha enjoys the kind of fame that very few people in the Indian film industry though.
What’s even more interesting is that many awards shows are now appreciating and recognising OTT content. Take Filmfare for example. Filmfare is one of the most prestigious awards shows in the country and the recently concluded their second edition of the Filmfare OTT awards. At the awards many big names were appreciated and honoured with the Filmfare award. Actors like Konkona Sen Sharma, Radhika Apte, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Manoj Bajpayee were felicitated.

In a video shared on Filmfare’s Instagram, Kusha Kapila has spoken about how she is honoured that Filmfare has created a space for OTT people to have a red carpet experience. Such a statement should not be taken lightly as it shows that OTT is here to stay and it will only continue to gain the kind of recognition it has received so far.
