Right about now, nobody should be surprised when a controversy starts forming the minute a web series is released in India. The Family Man 2, which was supposed to release in February, had been pushed back due to the Tandav controversy. Now, since the release of the show’s trailer a few days ago, there have been calls to ban it. In fact, Rajya Sabha MP Vaiko had also called for a ban on the show for allegedly hurting the sentiments of the people of Tamil Nadu. While, earlier, such statements were largely ignored by the media and the general public at large, celebrities and production houses have now been forced to answer to every controversy that could affect their project. Raj and DK, the directors of the series have now shared a statement on the allegations.
“Some assumptions and impressions have been made based on just a couple of shots in the trailer. Many of our lead cast members, as well as key members of the creative and writing team, are Tamilians. We are very cognizant of the sentiments of the Tamil people and Tamil culture and have nothing but the utmost love and respect towards our Tamil people. We have put in years of hard work into this show, and we have taken great pains to bring to our audiences a sensitive, balanced, and riveting story – much like we did in Season 1 of the show. We request everyone to wait and watch the show when it releases. We know you’ll appreciate it once you watch it,” the duo have said.
The Family Man 2 is slated to release on the 4th of July on Amazon Prime Video. It stars Manoj Bajpayee and Samantha Akkineni in the lead roles.
