In January this year, media reports had stated that Salman Khan’s highly anticipated movie, Radhe had been acquired by Zee Studios for a whopping Rs 230 crore. It was reported to be the biggest deal signed in Bollywood for a straight-to-OTT release. However, soon after this news hit, theatre organisations and associations across the country wrote a letter to Khan urging him to reconsider the decision considering that they needed a Salman Khan film to drive the masses to the theatres. In response, Khan had promised them that Radhe would release in theatres but as of today, there’s a slight change in the plan. Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai is set to release on the 13th of May this year but it will release on ZEE5, all leading DTH operators and in operational theatres in India and abroad.
“Salman Khan kept his promise to theatre owners and exhibitors who requested a theatrical release of Radhe. In return, he keeps reminding audiences and his fans to watch it with safety and precaution in centres where theatres are open. This decision is nothing short of courageous, because it risks personal profits while providing employment for thousands,” a source told Filmfare. However, this might not end up benefitting theatre owners considering that theatres are shut in all major cities in the country and people are not in a state to go watch a movie in a theatre at the moment.
