As promised, actor Priyanka Chopra and her musician husband, Nick Jonas announced the nominations for the 93rd Academy Awards today. In a short video, the actor and her beau had revealed that they would be announcing the nominations for the awards ceremony which was pushed back by two months this year due to the ongoing pandemic. The competition this year is especially tough. While Netflix’s Mank dominated the nominations with 10 nods, it has severe competition from other favourites like Nomadland, Minari and The Trial of The Chicago 7. However, despite all the fanfare, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom has not been nominated in the Best Picture category. Viola Davis who plays Ma Rainey, on the other hand, is nominated in the Best Actress category, making history as the most nominated black actress ever. Davis is also the only Black woman with two Best Actress nominations in Oscars history. Chopra Jonas’ The White Tiger scored one nomination in the Best Adapted Screenplay category for Ramin Bahrani.
The Academy Awards will be held on the 25th of April this year.
