If you’re old enough, you’ll remember that there was a time when almost every Emraan Hashmi movie was A-rated. He was known as the “serial kisser” and smooched his way to the top. His films may have been universally panned by critics but they always made oodles of money at the Box Office. However, it did come with a price. Emraan Hashmi stopped receiving good roles and actresses refused to star opposite him, thanks to our prudish culture. Now, the actor says that he is glad he has left that tag and that life behind.

“I don’t get those offers at all. Cinema in itself has changed. People have upped the [bold] quotient now. Back then, a kiss had shock value; now, the shock value is much more in OTT [projects]. The scripts offered to me right now are the kind of cinema I always wanted to do,” the actor tells Mid-Day.

Emraan Hashmi has a host of good projects lined up like Chehre and Tiger 3. Chehre released today and stars Amitabh Bachchan and Rhea Chakraborty besides Hashmi. “Maharashtra would have been a great addition because it makes up for 30 per cent of the business. But we want to put the film out there before anything else happens. There is [little] doubt that India will go through the third wave,” he says.
