It is indeed happening! Two of the biggest forces in Indian cinema at the moment, director Shankar and Bollywood biggie Ranveer Singh are coming together for the Hindi remake of the Tamil blockbuster, Anniyan. The original lead character in the movie was played by Vikram. “For Anniyan to be made in Hindi, I needed a maverick, charismatic showman like no other to play the part. I found that in Ranveer Singh, who is a once-in-a-generation actor. I’m thrilled to make Anniyan pan-Indian & I’m confident that it’ll strike a chord with all,” Shankar said in a statement.
The film is set to be produced by Dr Jayantilal Gada of Pen Studios and goes on floors on mid-2022. “Proudly announcing my collaboration with the pioneering visionary of Indian cinema, the maverick master craftsman SHANKAR @shankarshanmugh, powered by veteran film producer Dr. Jayantilal Gada @jayantilalgada @PenMovies,” wrote Singh on Twitter. While many have been hailing this news and Ranveer Singh has begun trending on Twitter, many others are questioning Shankar’s decision to remake this cult classic.
