Akshay Kumar played a major gamble when he released his film, Bell Bottom, in theatres. It would have been wiser to opt for an OTT release given the current situation but Akshay Kumar did so in a bid to revive the theatre business which has faced immense losses due to COVID-19. Bell Bottom has also suffered due to the ongoing pandemic as not many are willing to go to theatres and theatres are shut in a major market like Maharashtra.
According to media reports, this gamble may have paid off as Bell Bottom is said to beat Roohi as the year’s highest grosser. Bell Bottom reportedly earned INR 75 lakh on its second Friday, taking its total collection to an estimated INR 19.50 crore. In a few days, it will surpass Roohi’s lifetime collection even though Roohi was released before the second lockdown went into place.
