While almost everybody in the Hindi film industry is extremely concerned about their image, actor Sonakshi Sinha couldn’t care less. The actress has always been outspoken and never lets trolls get away with their nonsense. Sinha has been the subject of massive trolling ever since her debut in Bollywood with haters making obscene memes about her weight. However, the Dabangg actress has always given it back to them and how! On her birthday, we catalogue some of her best responses.
Following the tragic death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, people decided to use Bollywood celebrities as the targets for their rage and fury and this led to extreme negativity on social media. Sinha had even deactivated her Twitter account which caused massive celebration amongst the trolls. Taking to Instagram, Sinha shared a funny video with a poignant caption that read: “Some people are celebrating like they won something… I’m happy for you, tumhe laga raha hai na… lagne do, kisi ko koi farak nahi padh raha. But let’s face it, I’ve cut the direct source of insult and abuse in my life. I’ve taken away YOUR power to be able to say whatever it is that you want to me, my family and my friends. I’ve taken away that access you had to me that I had given you so trustingly. So there’s only one winner here. Me.”

In a March 2021 interview with IANS, Sinha said that she was indifferent to the trolls and all she cared about were her fans. “These guys sitting behind their phones and constantly spewing negativity aren’t important to me. My fans have been extremely supportive and that’s what matters. I have always been myself on social media and I will continue to keep it ‘asli’,” she said.
In 2019, Sinha was the subject of massive trolling when she couldn’t answer a question on Ramayana on Kaun Banega Crorepati. Sinha didn’t let the haters get to her and had hit back with a message of her own: “Dear jaage hue trolls. I don’t even remember the Pythagoras theorem (sic), Merchant Of Venice, periodic table, chronology of the Mughal Dynasty… I love memes.”
Again, a year later when she hosted an “Ask me anything” on Instagram, she was bombarded with questions on Ramayana. She responded to a follower’s question of “Sanjivani booty kon laya tha??” with a picture of Hanumana. She also wrote: “Lots of you have Ramayan related questions. Please watch it on Doordarshan and you will get all your answers. Jai Bajrang Bali!”
In August last year, Sinha shared a snazzy picture of herself looking down at her phone and smiling with the caption: “Me looking at the online abusers who have no idea whats going to hit them. Ab Bas. Do watch the series on my IGTV if you have been on the receiving end of online harassment and abuse. You don’t have to sit and take it anymore… help yourselves.”

And, how can we forget her responses to trolls who hated on her for her weight. A troll called her a “buffello” and she retorted: “B-U-F-F-E-L-L-O. Pehle spelling toh seekh le yaar!”
When a troll asked Sinha to go on a hunger strike so she could lose weight, she smiled it off with a classic response. “Isse zyada roles main kar bhi nahi sakti. Sorry! Bohot roles hai, bohot kaam hai mere paas,” she said.
And, we’ve saved the best for the last. The actor has spoken about how it is the anonymity offered by social media that emboldens the trolls. “Earlier, I used to read it and think how do people get themselves to say things like that. Kyunki agar aap kisi ke saamne kuch cheezein nahi bol sakte ho, aapko itni himmat kaise milti hai online bolne ki? Koi aake yeh mujhe saame bol de, main do mukke na de doon usko?” she had said.
