The film industry is a tricky one and despite what the woke folks on Twitter might say, it’s not exactly easy to make a film on just about anything because it’s an expensive business. And even then, once a film is made, there is no guarantee that it will be released. There have been movies that have lain in cans for years now because they haven’t found distributors or because they aren’t relevant anymore. Add to that, the world is changing at an incredibly fast pace today and getting increasingly polarised due to social media. Hence, a movie that was decided upon two years ago may be dangerous to release today. Below, we list down a bunch of Bollywood films that never saw the light of day.

The first on our list has to be Karan Johar’s ambitious project, Takht. The movie which was supposed to star Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh and Vicky Kaushal has been shelved. “Takht made no sense in the present context. It was meant to be an expensive historical costume drama, a collaboration between Karan Johar’s Dharma Production and Fox-Star. But Fox-star folded up and its replacement has been re-examining its long-standing relationship with Dharma Productions. Also, it was based on a rather controversial Moghul history,” a source had told Filmfare.

Parinaam was another film that never got made. It was set to be a massive big-budget film starring Akshay Kumar and Divya Bharti but was shelved due to Divya Bharti’s unfortunate and sudden demise.

3. DUS

Dus is probably one of the most popular films when we talk about those that have been shelved. It was supposed to be an action entertainer starring Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt who were going to play Indian spies on a mission to prevent the Indo-Pak war. However, the director Mukul Anand died and the film never got made.

Shoebite being shelved really hurt Amitabh Bachchan. This film by Shoojit Sircar and starring Big B was faced with massive legal issues. Bachchan had even put out a tweet requesting the production houses involved to put aside their differences but his requests fell on deaf ears.

Munna Bhai Amreeka was supposed to be the third movie in the popular Munna Bhai franchise but it never got made as the lead actor, Sanjay Dutt, was served with a jail sentence. In fact, a trailer of the film had also been released in 2007.

Time Machine by Shekhar Kapur had gotten all movie buffs excited. The movie was said to be inspired by Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale’s Back to the Future and had a star cast of Aamir Khan, Raveena Tandon, Rekha, Naseeruddin Shah, Gulshan Grover and Vijay Anand. In fact, three-fourths of the film was even shot but Kapur had to stop shooting as their funds dried up. Kapur also moved to the US soon after.

Another big film that was announced but never got made was Shuddhi. It was supposed to have the big reunion of Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor Khan but it never saw the light of the day.
