Mercedes-AMG G63 4×4 Squared was recently unveiled and it is the latest, most capable off-roader in the G-Wagen series. While its predecessor got a more bog-standard G500 variant, the new portal axle-equipped SUV will get the full-fat G63 treatment. Along with portal axles, the Mercedes-AMG G63 4×4 Squared gets insane ground clearance among other off-road goodies.

Being a serious off-roader, the Mercedes-AMG G63 4×4 Squared offers 45-degree approach angle and 350.5mm of ground clearance. However, the new 4×4 Squared G-Wagen is said to be less focused on off-roading than its predecessor and more on comfort and on-road usability. The older model had almost 6 degrees more of approach angle and was higher off the ground by 60mm. The new 4×4 Squared also has a water-wading depth of 909mm, which is nearly 100mm lower than the outgoing model.

Under the hood, the Mercedes-AMG G63 4×4 Squared has the same engine and transmission as the regular Mercedes-AMG G63. The 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8 produces 585hp and 850Nm of torque. Power will be delivered through all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic gearbox. More technical specifications about the SUV will be revealed closer to the launch. It will be offered in limited quantities and it’s not confirmed if it will make its way to the Indian shores.

Cosmetically, the jacked-up G-Wagen gets a carbon fibre-framed LED light bar above the windshield, along with a carbon fibre-finish for the spare wheel cover. Mercedes-AMG has also given the G63 4×4 Squared a digital inside rear view mirror because of the raised height and the bigger spare wheel. It will be as luxurious as the standard G63 and will come with features like Nappa Leather and ambient lighting.
