The second-generation Maruti Suzuki Brezza has just broken cover globally. The new compact SUV has been designed from the ground up but still looks like an evolution of the original Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza that was first showcased to Indian customers in 2016. The second-generation Maruti Suzuki Brezza also gets the brand’s new 6-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters, which debuted on its Ertiga and XL6 siblings.
Prices for the Maruti Suzuki Brezza start at Rs. 7.99 lakh for the base LXi variant which is only available with the manual transmission. The top-of-the-line ZXi+ Dual Tone retails for Rs. 13.96 lakh (ex-showroom) and gets the automatic transmission. The Brezza will be offered in six colour options along with three dual-tone options. It will rival the likes of the newly refreshed Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, and its own cousin Toyota Urban Cruiser.
Mechanically, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza comes with the 1.5-litre, smart-hybrid petrol engine that churns out 103hp and 137Nm of torque. As mentioned earlier, the engine is mated to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or Maruti Suzuki’s new 6-speed automatic gearbox. The Brezza is said to get ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of up to 20.15kmpl.
With the new generation, Maruti Suzuki has done a good job of making the car seem modern yet still look very Brezza-like. It gets a double-barrel projector headlamp with the LED DRLs wrapped around them. It also gets a bigger grille that extends into the headlight. The profile remains similar, with a floating roof design and plastic-cladding. The Brezza is now shod with new 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. The rear of the compact SUV now gets LED taillamps and has a Brezza badge in bold between the two lamps.
One of the biggest new features on the new Maruti Suzuki Brezza is the sunroof, a first for any Maruti Suzuki vehicle in India. Just like the Baleno, it also gets a head-up display and a 360-degrees camera. Maruti Suzuki has employed the SmartPlay Pro+ infotainment system in a 9-inch touchscreen — a 7-inch touchscreen for the base and mid-variants — with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. It also gets many connected car tech and Amazon Alexa support.
